PRESS RELEASE

Physical Assessment of Teachers’ ICT Capacity Conducted Across Three Senatorial Zones in Katsina State.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the EU–UNESCO project, has successfully conducted a physical assessment of teachers’ ICT capacity in selected primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial zones of Katsina State.

Speaking during the exercise, the UNESCO Consultant, Dr. Yinka Oyerinde, explained that this initiative falls under the UNESCO project titled "Education and Youth Empowerment in Nigeria – Phase II: Expand, Integrate, and Strengthen Systems (EISS) to Build Teachers’ Capacity and Resilience (2024–2028)." The programme covers six states in Nigeria, including Katsina State, and was officially launched about four months ago by His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, Governor of Katsina State, at the Government House, Katsina.

Dr. Oyerinde noted that the project aims to train approximately 18,000 teachers in ICT skills. The assessment is being carried out in two stages – virtual and physical. While the virtual assessment had already been conducted earlier, with Katsina State emerging as the best-performing state, the recently concluded exercise was the physical phase.

He commended the unwavering commitment of Governor Radda towards transforming the education sector, which, he said, was a key factor in Katsina State being selected as one of the beneficiaries of this UNESCO initiative. On behalf of UNESCO’s management, Dr. Oyerinde expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for his continued support, as well as to the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, for her tireless efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. He also acknowledged the dedication of the state’s focal person for the project and his team.

Dr. Oyerinde further expressed satisfaction with the readiness and enthusiasm of Katsina State teachers for the upcoming ICT training.
